RECO

Race 1 APR 10.

Hongkong, 12th October, 1909.

The Hon.Mr.F.H.May, O»M» G.,

sir,

Colonial Secretary.

Referring to your letter No.1134/08 dated the 20th.

August we have now heard from our client Chev. R. Pescio in reply

thereto as followB!

#

1. The first paragraph of the Colonial Secretary's letter

seems to me rather contradictory, and as it is necessary that I

should know exactly what the Government requires of me, it is

advisable that the Government should be more definite in the matter.

Whilst the Colonial Secretary begins the second paragraph of his

letter by saying

.there would be no objection to the fouling

of the Pokfolum Reservoir for a limited period provided I pay for the

necessary pumping eto... "he ends it by saying ......the Govern-

ment could not accept my proposals unless Ioan shew that no fouling

will take place". If the matter only rests with the fouling of the

Reservoir it might be possible to so alter the original plan that

the south end of the tunnel should open under Mount Kellet and I am in communication with my Engineer to see what can be done in the

matter.

2.

The Government seems to be under the impression that the

land I may require is only in the vicinity of Pokfolum, whereas the

greater part of it will instead be more towards Aberdeen and on the

slopes of Mount Kellet. If the land in the vicinity of Pokfolum is

valued at from 5 cents to 10 cents a square foot on account of

Pokfolum
